Yay, you’re back! Yay boobies! (though I can’t help but notice that Ash is the only one of the “main stars” who seems comfortable with the onscreen nudity – do Pita and Nikki have better contracts?)

Also, spellcheck nudge: it’s “puny” not “puney.”

“Puney” is a real word, though youth slang (urban dictionary definition: Someone of lesser coolness and/or skill). The use of unusual and antiquated language (e.g., “so mote it be”) is in keeping with Ashley’s weird transformation.

I see what you’re talking about in the “Urban Dictionary,” but that is just a slang misspelling of “puny” with the exact same definition and pronunciation. Since it’s a misspelling, it doesn’t work here because we’re “hearing” Ashley say the word, not seeing her write it down, I think “puny” is still the way to go.

    And I reiterate, yay boobies!

It’s not a misspelling. The street or youthspeak version is pronounced differently and has a different meaning than “puny,” which means physically weak, small, and/or feeble.

Well, at this point it’s all about TKD’s intent. Either way is fine by me.

    Boobies.

*blinkblink* How did Ashley wind up on her back in the first panel? I can’t picture how that happened based on the way things were going in the last panel of the previous page.

Lunaroki: I believe the flip there speaks for itself. I would assume the Nikki planted her knee into Ashley’s stomach and fell back, flipping Ashley into that position, I can’t figure out how she ended up in the position in the second panel, unless she somehow turned when she nit the nightstand.

Wittlash, you’re right about flip. But maybe I didn’t depict it clearly… I actually rendered a few more frames but elected not to include them when I was composing the page because there were too many panels. You’re also right to question Ashley’s placement in the second panel. I cheated her position somewhat so that she didn’t just crash into the wall.

As for the “puny/puney debate: I would like to say that “puney” was intentional, but the truth is (as anyone who has followed this comic for a while can attest) I was born without a spelling gene. Before uploading the page I DID quickly paste “puney” into Google to double check my spelling. It came up with results including the Urban Dictionary, so I thought it was correct. But after reading the comments, I have to admit that “puny” was my intent, so I made the change.

Thanks for the feedback all! -TK

While we’re on the spelling thing, I believe it’s “mought,” which is an archaic conjugation of “might”/”must.” No sweat, though — I doubt 98% of the populace would even know the word, let alone how to spell it.

Actually, not to get so caught up in semantics like I did before, but TKD is using the phrase correctly. It is an archaic confirmation phrase used in magic ritual (pagans and witches use it still). Just like you say, “mote” here means “may/might.”

Hopefully we don’t cause TK to second guess his every comma placement, because I just wanna see what happens next!
