I believe that’s an artistic choice, Melissa. Usually done to focus the reader’s eye on the character or to break up the page in a refreshing way. It’s one of the cool things you can do in comics that you can’t do in film. (well, you can, but it’s such a highly stylized effect that most directors wouldn’t choose it – unless they were directing a comic book movie, that is.)
Great observation Some Dude -the fact that Kib said Nikki’s surname suggests that he may know more than he lets on. And Melissa, WhattaMaroon is right -the change of background in the 5th panel is a style choice… I like to mix in some classic comic styles now and then. As to whether Nikki will accept the offer from a stranger -certainly she would normally decline, but don’t forget, this is a dream -of sorts… TK
Never, EVER eat anything given to you by the fey. If there’s one thing I learned from my college roommate’s Irish grammama (I probably should have paid better attention… the woman was a fount of knowledge), it’s that.
IIRC accepting food or drink from the Sidhe binds you to their cause, sometimes for better, but usually for worse. By and large, they don’t like humans.
Hmm… “Great observation Some Dude -the fact that Kib said Nikki’s surname suggests that he may know more than he lets on.” Well, he IS in her dream and not a figment of her imagination. He is probably (in some way) creating the dream. So he’s in her mind, doing… stuff. There’s no telling (until you tell us, TKD) what memories and feelings of hers are accessible to him. Not to mention the question of what previous knowledge he (and whoever else is involved in this dream business) already has about her. Possibly quite a lot.
Still, the offering of the fruit, as ZenKai and Docsmith626 point out, is very suspicious. The Sidhe may need something she knows (that they can’t access) or some other type of assistance from her.
Let me just say that I’ve only just stumbled across this comic and I. Just. Can’t. Get. Away. Can’t pinpoint as to ‘WHY’ that is, but neither am I fussed about the specifics. Here’s going back for more…
…
Errr, once I’ve cleaned the drool from the keyboard. Heheh… whoops…

Yes, Mr. Kib of the Wood Elves, why aren’t you naked?
“Never take candies from strangers…” my mother always said. I wonder if Nikki’s the type that listens to her parents’ advise, though.
Yes, this brightness level for the background is definitely better! No forest background on the bottom left picture, though? 🙁

Is it just me, or can you see the side of the guy’s dong in the last frame?

I love Nikki’s expression in the last panel.
I wonder what she’s thinking?
@mgscott: She’s thinking “Mmmmm… forbidden fruit…”
😉
