Dick move, TK. And a very snarky way to let it be known you don’t want your fans and readers offering any kind of criticism. Cue the sycophantic choruses of, “He doesn’t speak for the rest of us, TK! We love everything you do!”
And now let the vilification of yours truly commence!
Nope Whatta, you definitely speak for me. I was thinking pretty much the exact same thing. I mean, lets be honest: Gratuitous nudity, titillating lewd activity, and lecherous fanservice are why most of us read the comic. The story is pretty good, but there are a lot of ‘pretty good’ webcomics out there. Pretty good story + Nekkid fairies is why I still click ‘Refresh’ every Thursday.
*Offers Whatta a place under his gold umbrella to hide from the rotten fruit about to be thrown.*
*Golf umbrella
Personally, my problem with the pacing is precisely because it takes a long time to get to the “gratuitous nudity, titillating lewd activity, and lecherous fanservice”.
Having said that though, I’m perfectly happy with this little troll if it means Nikki just sent herself to Terestai in this state of the aforementioned “gratuitous nudity”!
This made me lol. Good comeback at the entitled moaners.
LOL… I’m sure TK originally had something else planned for those few frames, to stall Nikki’s nudity a bit longer… WhattaMaroon’s feedback came just at the right time to incorporate it into the picture here.
@WhattaMaroon – I think you’re reading too much into this. imho it’s just TK’s way of letting you know that he *did* read the feedback, and that he will keep it in mind, but it’s not so easy to simply change the page from one page to the next… and as you could read for yourself, different readers have different opinions about it… you can never keep everyone happy.
So just sit back and enjoy the ride!
(change the pace, that is)
@ WhattaMaroon May 24, 2014, 2:36 am “… And, with that, I’ll shut up. I stated my opinion as well as I could. I really don’t want to be the sole voice of criticism here, nor do I want to dump any more negativity on TK’s head. …”
And it only took five days to reverse the flounce.
@Melissa: Look at the page again. I think TK originally planned it to be three panels smaller.
@Arklytte: Couldn’t said it better. Without “gratuitous nudity, titillating lewd activity, and lecherous fanservice” this comic will fall in averageness. Sure, dropping story would be even worse, but pacing? I didn’t noticed problems with pacing before and I would certainly not mind additional page with “gratuitous nudity, titillating lewd activity, and lecherous fanservice” here.
Well played, TK, well played 😀
For the record, I think the pace was just fine before. There’s no way to make the story advance very quickly with a one page a week update schedule so we just have to be patient. I don’t think changing the writing is the answer.
Like a couple of posters said before me, the story AND the sexy content are what makes this comic stand out, so personally, I wouldn’t change a thing. A handful of posters complaining about the pace of the comic aren’t the voice of the majority, and even if they were, ultimately, it’s your comic. The writing, the pace, what you put or don’t put on a page should be what you want TK.
If you’re anything like me, this comic is your baby and the only way to do good work is if it remains -your- work.
Any chance we get that “gratuitous nudity, titillating lewd activity, and lecherous fanservice” as a donation reward?
TK, that was just hillarious. Pacing debate be damned, that was funny as hell.
I’ve already said my piece on the pacing issue. The “Special Report” bit was hilarious! 😀 If I may though, it should be “Due to some recent dissatisfaction”, not “Do to…”.
way to spoil the fun but i see what you mean about not being able to pack certian elements into just one page and having to draw it out over several
@Brianna: I didn’t “reverse,” I kept my word. I didn’t rehash my criticism or frustration. I only responded to TK’s smirking barb in this week’s page. I still have the right to comment, don’t I?
Like I’ve said before, I love the comic. I’ve provided lots of positive feedback, some fan art, a little cash, and even the name of one of the characters. I chimed in during the “Big Hiatus”, trying to keep the flame alive for this wonderful story TK’s giving us. It was my hope (but not my expectation) that TK was a creator who might be open to constructive criticism from a longtime fan. But this is his response. So I’m left looking like the asshole who deprived the readers of their “fan service.” I didn’t ask for that. Whatevs.
I’ll still follow the comic and I’ll still speak up when I delighted or displeased with something, I just won’t expect it to matter.
p.s.: Thanks for the umbrella, Arklytte.
Aww man! The good stuff is gone, I was wanting to see what was gonna happen. Big thanks goes to the clown who made TK ruin the story for everyone. 😕
@WhattaMaroon – Very well then. You’ve now entered a preemptive unflounce for whenever you flounce again. Brilliant strategy.
Oooh yeah *slash* – we deserve it!
Hey everyone, just to set the record straight: the newsflash on today’s page was done in fun. No harm intended. While this comic is my passion, and I love working on it, I certainly do welcome constructive criticism. I don’t take negative feedback personally, and as long as comments are not rude or crude, I leave them posted for everyone to see. There were so many responses over the past two weeks that I thought the newsflash would be a nice way to bring some humor to the debate. Truth be told, I agree with WhattaMaroon that the pace was beginning to drag. And truth be told, I did not actually have several pages worth of fanservice that I just omitted. With the exception of the 3 panels that the newsflash replaces, the comic is just where it would have been anyway. (Yes, I will post those 3 panels somewhere in the future.) Hugrat, Melissa, Sorastro, Lunaroki and others saw the newsflash for what it is -not a backlash to WhattaMaroon’s comments, but rather my way to acknowledge it and add some humor to the debate. Cheers -TK
Damn! The voice of reason always gets in the way of a good brouhaha.
People complained about the pacing over in Grrl Power, basically demanding some action and to get to the fighting, and when it finally did come, people complained about how much longer the ‘first day’ would be dragged out even longer
The point is, people will always bitch about something and the bitchers tend to be the most vocal (and eloquant) so even when they are blatantly bitching it appears to be simply ‘criticism’ (personally have never come across any form of ‘positive’ criticism)
Aww does that mean we aren’t going to get a Nikki who finds herself stranded in Terestai completely naked? Damn it!
Have to say though I don’t approve of the hostility being shown to criticism of the comic in general (such as calling it entitled or “bitching”), while I agree WhattaMaroon could be less aggressive, I do find that kind of support to be essentially unhelpful and potentially more obnoxious than the criticism they are attacking.
Keep in mind that TK says he agrees with WhattaMaroon’s criticism, which means you’re effectively insulting TK’s opinion on things as well.
Hoist by his own petard! Whoosh! What I get outta this is how hot a news anchor Nikki would be. I would watch the news again!
Oh, fine TK, if you wanna be all polite and logical about it. And here I was, hoping for a good, old-fashioned flame war. (j/k) 😛 🙂
I do enjoy this comic btw…I wouldn’t even bother to comment if I didn’t. Looking forward to seeing where it goes in the future.
@Whatta: Welcome. 😉
Talk about being rick rolled
Nicely done sir, nicely done 🙂
Ha! Nice. Although if there has been whining from some readers – gee, that never happens – those particular people are likely to be a teeny bit unpopular now.
So whether just an intentional joke and tease, or a bit of a Take That for whiny readers, its funny either way.
Was kind looking forward to naked Nikki though. Oh well.
@whatamaoon
You should *never* expect your opinion to matter on the internet for one reason: It doesn’t. Not yours, mine, or anyone. We all post with some degree of anonymity, and most people say things on the internet they would never have the guts to say in person. Hostility is free on the internet, there’s little demand, but one heck of a supply.
And crazy. Lots of crazy.
In that environment, and given you simply can’t satisfy everyone – and nor should one try too – plus some people will never be happy no matter what is done, how can you ever actually expect anyone to worry too much about what you posted?
Besides, you are just one person, and your opinion is just that, yours. No matter how profound or self-evident you think it to be, there will always be those who disagree. Sometimes only a few, sometimes a lot.
We aren’t TKs boss. Even if we gave money, it still doesn’t mean he owes us anything (a specific contract – such as a commission for work – is obviously a different matter). He makes his comic, he posts it, we view it – for free – if we like it, we come back. If few like it: he gets few readers, few if any donations, and little ad revenue. And the comic dies. But that is the extent of it. TK has to create something that he thinks will have appeal, and the only genuine judge of that is hits.
Yes, you can comment, it may generate discussion as has occured here, but never expect it to matter.
Im confused do u post thursday or fridays
Angst, drama, people looking to take offense because someone else doesn’t agree with them. Ugh. Let’s stop, please? Webcomics are for fun. Let’s just enjoy and have fun, okay? Wait… Uh-oh, too late. We’ve woken up the Fun Nazi.
Fun Nazi: You! All of you! Haff fun now! Zis is an order! You vill haff fun, or ve vill hunt you down und mash tapioca pudding in your face!
Sorry guys. I was hoping to spare you all the wrath of the Fun Nazi. Maybe if we all put on party hats and throw confetti he might go away? *blows on a noisemaker and puts on a hat labeled Part-E*
So many comments lol
Typo in Nikki’s special report: “Do to some recent dissatisfaction” should be “Due to”
Thanks Nice Guy and Lunaroki for pointing out the “due” mistake. Fixed! Oh, and Dayana, updates are on Thusdays -usually 😛 -TK
Hey at least TK is more reliable than that THunt guy who writes Goblins …. that’s why I stick with Nikki now
Feel like we’ve been waiting for some kind of ‘action’ and it feels like it’s constantly implied. More disappointed than anything else.
@tartanninja – If you are looking for some kind of “action” then it is time to get off the internet and go find some “real action” with your choice of bedfellow and hopefully it wont be “implied” and you wont be disappointed.. hopefully.
@ All The Other Dissatisfied Readers – C’est la Vie. These webcomic is just fine TK and this episode is an instant classic. Well done TK, well done.
* This webcomic is just*
I really should proof read, sigh.
You and me both, Lewd. I can’t count the number of my errors that readers have caught. 😛
*grin* It’s what we do, and happy to help. ^_^
Booooooo! Who’s been complaining?
Haven’t we seen Pita in that costume before? Not saying that that is a bad thing, just it looks familiar (and not because it’s Vampy, have a poster of a live-model opposite bed)
Guesticus, I haven’t done Pita in Vampy’s outfit. She’s cosplayed as Wonder Woman, Catwoman, and a Star Trek character, but never as Vampirella. If you’ve ever visited my page on DA, you may have seen a similar picture I did, but it wasn’t in a comic style, and it didn’t feature Pita. And by the way, I’m a Vampy fan too. I don’t have a poster of her, but I do have issue #1 of the magazine here on my desk, with Frank Frazetta’s beautiful cover. Now THAT’S inpiration! 🙂 Cheers -TK
Hmmm, going to have to check the past invotives, this one just seemed familiar
ಠ_ಠ
Nope.
Done.
My tolerance for teasing/baiting has now been exceeded.
Goodbye.
Any estimate on that “somewhere in the future” from “will post those 3 panels somewhere in the future”?
