I dunno guys. I don’t think there’s time for recharging right now, not to mention the noise it will make. I’m thinking that Flitter’s plan is to trigger a change of venue, using Nikki’s butterfly tattoo to transport them to Terestai.
Ahhh, TK. Look, I’ve been a fan of Nikki’s (and you) since the very beginning, but I have to say that you drive me a little nuts! The pacing on this comic is pretty terrible. Chapter 10 (this chapter) began ten months ago …and nothing much has happened.
Pita dresses up, Nikki gets confronted by dean, Nikki faces off with ugly and with possessed security guy, Nikki and Pita hide out with horny Stacey. These are the story beats for this chapter. In any comic book (and, yes, I get that the webcomic format is much more nebulous), this might be a five page sequence. This has been twenty updates (with those unforseeable gaps in your schedule notwithstanding).
I assume (as a reader) the goal of this chapter all along was to finally get Nikki back to Terestai so that the “quest proper” could finally begin. Are we there yet?
Even the sexy girl/girl elements of late (which I am a huge fan of) seem to drag! And that SURELY ain’t right!
I hope you’ll take all this as constructive criticism from a fan, which I remain, who would just like to voice his opinion and his desire to see this comic be the best it can be.
If someone would pay TK mucho dinero mayhap the pace might increase. A free comic is pleasing to me regardless of its pace and I have contributed dinero. Keep up the great work TK!
Thank you, Strat714, for pointing out the comic is free. But, one would hope, even a free comic (or film or novel, etc.) has a creator striving to improve their craft as a storyteller. Yes, ultimately they’re out to please themselves first and foremost, but to discount the responses and reactions of their audience altogether would be foolish. As foolish, on the flipside, as caving in to every voiced expectation or “want” from the readers.
All I was trying to do was express my own frustration with what I perceive to be a weakness in a mostly enjoyable piece of work.
And, not that it matters (except to TK, I assume), but I have also donated a few bucks to the cause in the past and most likely will do so again.
Guesticus.. all good and well but 10 years… Lets be honest here Grrrl Power has only been around since about Aug of 2010. Not even HALF of a decade. Embellishment is for your friends, not the interwebs, where most “facts” can be found.
I remember when I discovered mangas that I loved the increased amount of pages per story time very much. Even though I did not realize what it was until after I read some of them. In western comics the panels tend to depict scenes which creates a difficulty to show details of action. Much less so in mangas.
The web comics I know & love tend to go with manga-pace or even more pages per story time, Grrl Power is the (quite unbeatable) record-holder. This leads to a great discrepancy between reader-time (one or two updates per week) and story time (time during page: usually some seconds) but I still like it better than the usual western comic pace.
tl;dr: More pages per story time > less pages per story time! Very much, IMHO.
Yes, manga do tend to use a lot of two-panel, single panel (splash page) pages and double-page spreads to emphasize epic action, or even poetic emotion. That tends to pack on the page count. But these only tend to flow well as a storytelling device if you’re reading a full “tank” (book) or chapter – and not so well, if you’re reading a story that updates one page at a time, week to week.
And that doesn’t seem to be the storytelling method TK is emulating anyway. His layouts and page-to-page scripting seems much more in the Western comic book style. If Nikki were actually packaged as a Western comic book, with each monthly “issue” comprised of the standard 20-30 pages, you would quickly see how little the plot has advanced in these – let’s say seven or eight – issues. That have been spread out over FIVE YEARS!
I’m not grousing about the art, the characters, the story, the world, or the writing (dialogue) here, I just think there’s a tighter, more consistent way to plot this thing, to keep up reader interest and build momentum.
And, at the end of the day, I’d like to see some action (magical, martial or sexual) happen in this comic before I’m too old to enjoy it.

Looks like Nikki doesn’t have a choice. Time to recharge! 🙂
Yes! Remove your skirt!
Doesn’t beat around the bush, does she? (So to speak)
Yes! Time for the previously interupted mingling to begin(gling)!

If you hate the pace of this webic, you will hate the pace of Grrl Power (after, hmm, 10 years{?} it is still on it’s first day)

I’m quite happy with the creator improving his craft as an illustrator/artist.
Hmmm, thought it had been going longer, but the point remains that GP is still on it’s first day
